Minutes of the Annual Meeting
North Carolina State Board of Examiners in Optometry
Held via Conference Telephone call
12:30 p.m., June 15, 2005
The meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m. by the President. Present on the call were Drs. Joel Banks, President, David Anderson, David Baxter, William Hendrix, William Rafferty, Mrs. Trudy Mitchell and Mrs. Mary Richardson, members of the Board. Also present were Dr. John Robinson, Executive Director, Mrs. Janice Peterson, Administrative Secretary, and Mrs. Sara Roberts, Administrative Assistant.
Announcing that the purpose of the meeting was to elect new officers. Dr. Banks opened the floor for nominations for President.
Dr. Rafferty nominated Dr. Baxter for President. The motion was seconded by Dr. Anderson. There being no further nominations, Dr. Baxter was elected unanimously.
The floor was then opened for nominations for Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. Baxter nominated Dr. Rafferty, and Dr. Anderson seconded the nomination. There being no further nominations, Dr. Rafferty was elected unanimously.
Dr. Banks took a moment to thank the members of the Board for their support during his time in office and over the five years he has been a member of the Board. Dr. Baxter then took over the meeting and thanked the members for their confidence in him and assured those present on the call that he would do his utmost to lead the Board in the maintenance of the highest standards of professional and ethical practice of optometry as exemplified by those who have gone before.
Dr. Robinson announced that the hotel previously used during the Board examinations had no space available; therefore, reservations had been guaranteed for the Board members, clinical examiners and staff at the Sheraton Capital Center.
There being no further business, at 12:45 p.m., a motion to adjourn was made by Dr. Baxter, seconded by Dr. Anderson and passed unanimously.
The next meeting of the Board will be in Raleigh, N.C. on Friday evening, July 29, 2005, at a time certain to be announced, and ending Monday, August 1, 2005, for the purpose of conducting the Summer 2005 Clinical/Practicum Examinations.
